Course Introduction

Professional Scrum™ with User Experience (PSU) is a hands-on, activity based course where students experience how Scrum and User Experience (UX) align and integrate to create cross-functional teams that connect more closely with end users and customers, ultimately delivering more value and improving outcomes. By working together in a dual-track agile process, members of the Scrum Team can work more effectively to balance discovery work and delivery work.

The course also includes a free attempt at the globally recognized Professional Scrum with User Experience I certification assessment (PSU I).

Course Overview

In this two day class* students will leverage an ongoing case study as a way of applying techniques learned throughout the class and preparing to take what they learn back to their workplace.  This course is designed for Product Owners and Scrum Masters to enable them to better incorporate design, research and learning into their Scrum process.

Lean UX techniques focus the team toward customer-centric design and discovery. Scrum focuses the team toward rapid delivery and customer feedback. By bringing together Lean UX and Scrum, teams learn how to drive the design together with delivery in short, iterative cycles to assess what works best for the business and the user.

Leveraging Lean UX techniques, the course takes core design and research activities, illustrating how they come together with development and delivery. Attendees explore how these activities fit into a dual-track agile process (Design and Development) where cross-functional teams can work together to explore, experiment and deliver value-based outcomes.

This course was created together with Jeff Gothelf and Joshua Seiden, the authors of the book Lean UX ,leveraging their expertise and knowledge. The goal of working together is to help students learn the truth about many of the myths that exist when it comes to bringing together design and development activities and how to overcome the challenges that come with this integrated team approach.

*  When offered in-person, this course is generally delivered over two consecutive days. When offered as a Live Virtual Class, the course may be broken up into more, shorter days.

  • Dispel many myths about User Experience and its relationship to Agile and Scrum
  • Experience how the UX mindset and the Scrum framework compliment, align, and integrate
  • Learn the advantages of thinking of work as problems to solve, and the Business Problem Statement’s role in this
  • Understand how the Scrum Team can connect more closely with end users and customers
  • Understand how “easily” and “quickly” we can do product development and include UX
  • Learn the advantages of thinking of work as problems to solve, and how Business Problem Statements can frame the discussion
  • Learn common patterns for employing UX practices within a Sprint and within a cross-functional team that includes UX Professionals
  • Learn how to plan and balance both discovery and delivery work
  • Leave with some UX techniques that can be accomplished within the Scrum Team
  • Understand how anyone on the Scrum Team can support UX practices in support of the product
  • Focus on outcomes and impacts over outputs
  • Embrace the need to release and use measurements to validate outcomes
  • Realize the importance of incorporating UX work as part of the Product Backlog
  • Learn the value of testing hypotheses with experiments

Who Should Attend

  • Scrum Masters and Product Owners who will learn how to integrate the UX specialty with what they already know about the power of self-organizing cross-functional teams. This will enable them to help Developers to learn about the customer, plan learning/discovery/design work, and still deliver a "Done" increment each Sprint.

In addition, Scrum Masters will learn how to incorporate product discovery techniques into Sprints and how to balance the product discovery work with the product delivery work while Product Owners will learn product discovery techniques that User Experience Designers use to better understand the needs of the user.
  • UX Professionals struggling to integrate on a Scrum Team will learn how to work more effectively inside Scrum, managing work in Sprints and visualizing it in the Product Backlog.
  • People who have learned about Lean UX and want to learn how to integrate those concepts into Professional Scrum working together in a unified Scrum Team.

Assessment Certification

All participants completing the Professional Scrum with User Experience course will receive a password to attempt the Professional Scrum with User Experience I (PSU I) certification assessment. PSU class participants who attempt the PSU I assessment within 14 days of the class and do not score at least 85% will be granted a 2nd attempt at no additional cost.

Good to know

If you have any questions relating to this course or to the booking process that are not answer on this page, please get in touch.

What preparation should I do before the course?

This will depend on the level of the course you are taking. If you are planning to do one of the foundational courses, then apart from reading the Scrum Guide and being familiar with the content in that, it's entirely up to each student to determine what - if any - preparatory work that they wish to do.

For the more advanced courses, we would recommend that you make sure that you are up to date with your foundational knowledge. You may also wish to read about the course subject in advance - if you would like any recommendations on resources that we think would help you, feel free to contact us.

What payment options do you accept?

We accept either AED or USD via the following payment methods:

  • Invoice - note that all invoices will need to be paid in full at least 10 days prior to the course date. For bookings made within 10 days, invoices are payable immediately.
  • Using a bank card via our payment partner Stripe
  • PayPal
  • Bank transfer - transfers will need to be received at least 10 days prior to the course date.
  • Cryptocurrency - we accept USDC, Bitcoin and Ethereum. Contact us to arrange this.

If you have questions or requests to make related to payment, please get in touch.

Do you offer private courses or training courses on dates that work for me?

Yes, we do offer this. If you can't see a course date that works for you, or if you want to explore the option of having training course dedicated to you or your organisation/team, just get in touch.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

If you are more than 10 days away from the date on which your course is scheduled to take place, you can cancel a course booking at any stage and request a refund. However, there is a small administrative fee of $20, which will be deducted from your refund amount, which is to cover the fees we incur when processing payments and refunds. For cancellations within 10 days of the course date, a 50% refund will be issued.

For date changes for courses that not within the next 10 days, you can contact us at any time to request to move your booking to another date.

I've got some colleagues/friends that are interested in attending a course - can I refer them to you?

Yes, of course. We'd be happy to receive introductions to any of your friends or colleagues that are interested in attending a course run by Agility Arabia. As a thank you to anyone referring, we will pay out 10% of the invoice when your referred friends/colleagues make a booking. Just be sure to let us know before they make a booking. Referral pay-outs are not offered retrospectively, so if they have booked and paid before you've made the referral, then you will not be eligible for a payment.

What happens if Agility Arabia cancels my course?

Whilst we do all we can to avoid cancelling public courses, there is a minimum number of students required for each course to go ahead. This is to ensure that there are sufficient attendees to make the learning experience valuable for everyone - Scrum.org courses are collaborative learning experiences that require interaction between students.

So for courses that are currently below that minimum, the advertised course date is provisional. Once the course has reached the minimum number of required students, we will let you know. Should a course not reach that minimum number of required students, you will automatically be refunded in full or offered the chance to select an alternative date that works for you.

What does my training course payment cover?

For both remote and in-person courses, your fee covers the tuition and two attempts at the Scrum.org exam. Should you not pass first time, you will have a second opportunity to take the exam within 14 days of the first exam.

If you've booked an in-person course, you'll need to cover your travel costs and any expenses during the day (e.g. lunch and refreshments).

Do you offer discounts?

If you are looking to make a bulk booking for multiple students, please get in touch with us directly to discuss options.

For individuals that have taken a Scrum.org PSM or PSPO course can take advantage of a 40% discount on next level courses. For example, if you have taken a PSM-I course, you can get a 40% discount on a PSM-II course. Similarly, PSM-II course attendees can get 40% off a PSM-III course. And for PSPO-I course attendees, there is a 40% discount on a PSPO-II course.

Is the booking process secure?

Don't worry - we use a reputable, industry leading payment provider (Stripe) to process payments. That means that Agility Arabia does not have visibility or access to your payment details at any stage.

The only personal details we will store as a result of a course or meeting booking will be your name and contact details so that we can manage your course booking.

Do I need to pay VAT?

For students that either (1) live in, or (2) attend an in-person course in a country within the GCC (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman), you will need to pay VAT of 5% on their bookings. For non-GCC residents who attend a course from outside the GCC, VAT is not charged.

If you need a VAT receipt, just let us know.

Is there any difference between a virtual course and an in-person course?

Regardless of whether you're attending a course in-person or virtually, there is no difference in the course content or the Scrum.org certificate that those that pass the exam will receive.

Why do you ask for my country of residence during the booking process?

Scrum.org offers different course pricing based on a person's country of residence. So in order to correctly charge students, we need to know what country each student is based in - and this will include a proof-of-address check.
